I was walking next to a student who had his feet halfway into his Nike Airs, wearing them like flip-flops. With his heels hanging out, every step he took produced a click-clack sound. As I quietly laughed to myself, he looked over and confidently smiled.
I thought of several possibilities…
- He really wanted to wear flip-flops but his roommate was sleeping, the room was dark, and the sneakers were his only option.
- He was in a rush to grab a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich before biology class and didn’t have time to pull on the back of his sneakers.
OR
- This was him, and this was his brand.
Yes, you are a brand!
Your smile, your mannerisms, the way you show up in the world, your values, how you carry yourself – they all represent your personal brand.
How do you want people to think about you, and what do you want to be known for?
So often, we want to blend in and go along with the crowd — being, doing and saying things that are not “us” but make us feel more socially accepted.
You don’t need to be someone else to be memorable. You simply need to be true to yourself.
